ABOUT STEFAN

How do you pronounce Stefan's name?
His name is pronounced Stef Fen Burke.

How old is he?
As of this posting, Stefan is 41.

Where was he born?
Stefan was born and lived a good deal of his life in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Where does he live now?
Stefan currently resides in Petersburg, Virginia.

Is he married?
Yes. In December 2005 Stefan married the love of his life, Holly.

Does he have any children?
No.

How about siblings?
One younger sister.

Does he believe in God?
Yes. That's the simple answer. The more complicated answer is well ... more complicated.

Does he believe in ghosts?
Yes.

What kind of music does he like?
Stefan listens to music sporadically, so settling on favorite genres or artists is rare. Some of his long-term favorites are Triumph, Dog's Eye View and The Mission U.K.

Who are his favorite authors?
Stefan has no favorite authors but rather favorite books. Some of these are Tough Guys Don't Dance by Norman Mailer and Bag of Bones by Stephen King and The Descent by Jeff Long.

How about favorite movies?
Stefan's top three favorite movies are: It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (any version though he's partial to the Muppet Christmas Carol) and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory--the original NOT the recent butchering.

Stefan's ideas are pretty strange. Where does he get them?
From moments of epiphany. These "eureka" moments come while watching movies, reading books or simply watching people and living life.

How long does it take for him to write a book?
It took nearly six years for Stefan to write Juggler and another five years to write the next book.

Why so long?
Stefan attributes this to a lifelong battle with ADHD. Stefan has finally decided to seek professional help with his disorder and hopes it will lead to much shorter production times between novels.

What's this book "Online" that I keep hearing about?
The official title of this book is Online; A Ghost Story. This book was scheduled to follow Juggler as the next full-length novel release. After several completed drafts Stefan couldn't decide whether he liked the book enough to release it. He still hasn't decided. If he does choose to finally release the book, Darkwriter.com will be the first to announce it.

Does he have any favorite characters?
Stefan loves all his characters, the good and the bad. He does have a particular soft spot in his heart for Chapman Carter, the older detective from Juggler who also plays a major role in the unpublished, Online as well. A precursor to this character can be found as the sheriff in the short story Hunter's Run.
